Denbighshire school celebrates autism first

Ysgol Esgob Morgan, St Asaph has become the first school in Denbighshire and the second school in North Wales to become an 'Autism Aware School' through the Welsh National Autistic Spectrum Disorders School Scheme.

The school had to ensure that the learning environment was one in which pupils with Autism would feel relaxed and secure. All staff, pupils and Governors have received Learning with Autism training in what autism is and how to best meet the learning, social and emotional needs of pupils with Autism.

Richard Hatwood, Additional Learning Needs Co-ordinator at Esgob Morgan, said: "We are proud and privileged to be the first Denbighshire school and only second school in North Wales to gain this award. The award of recognition of the value that the school and Local Authority place on inclusion and on ensuring that we work tirelessly to best meet the needs of all pupils".
