Writing a social story with a parent for a child starting junior school

Actions and outcomes

A mother came into the North Wales IAS requiring some help for her autistic son. Her son was starting in junior school in the coming September, and she wanted to make a social story to help him with to understand changes. North Wales IAS helped her to put together the social story.

Feedback

The client worked through the social story with her son and was pleased with the outcome. She felt empowered to create more social stories to help her son.

Lessons Learned

Working together can be really beneficial for practitioner and client. By working through the social story, both the support worker and the client learnt how to write them, and the client feels empowered to write more.
