WLGA Press Release – “Inspirational” role of parents and carers of autistic children recognised for Carers’ Week

As part of Carers’ Week this year, Councillor Huw David (Bridgend) WLGA Spokesperson for Health and Social Care has recognised the remarkable role played by parents and carers of autistic children.

Councillor David said:

“Being a parent or carer is an inspirational role which requires unwavering empathy, devotion and commitment – and for no-one is this truer than for those who care for an autistic child. We hear from families that having a child receive an autism diagnosis can often be a bewildering experience due to a general lack of understanding of autism as a condition. That is why the National Autism Team has developed a range of resources to support parents and carers from the point of their child’s diagnosis and as they progress and develop through childhood.”

“I hope that these resources will help to offer reassurance to devoted parents and carers and to show that there is information available that can really help them understand what the diagnosis means and give practical advice about day to day living.”
