Increasing Professional Understanding Of The Signs Of Autism: Impact Report Produced

A report has been produced by Cardiff University detailing the impact of ‘The Birthday Party’ film.

‘The Birthday Party’, a film made in partnership between the Welsh Local Government Association, Cardiff University, Aston University and clinical psychology partners, and funded by the Economic and Social Research Council and Welsh Government, was produced in 2017 for the purpose of improving front-line professionals’ understanding and awareness of the signs of autism in children.

Since then, the film has been adapted and translated into multiple languages for use in other European countries including Latvia, Italy, Spain and Lithuania through the partnership of University of Latvia and Autism Society of Latvia, Vita-Salute San Raffaele University and Associazione Autismo Pavia Onlu, Universidad Autónoma de Madrid and Autismo España, as well as Siauliai University and Lithuanian Autism Association.

The film has also become part of national clinical toolkits for medical staff and part of the national training resources for schools in the United Kingdom.

The report details the development and overall impact of the film since its early stages in 2015, including quotes from professionals and parents, and a summary of how the film has resulted in a significant improvement in understanding of autism in all countries after being watched.
